TO Williams of Wem have been Fine Food Specialists for decades. The Williams family has been connected with the food business, particularly cheese, since the late nineteenth century.
From its early days as a small grocery shop just over the border in Cheshire , the business has expanded over the years to include shops in Whitchurch, Shawbury, Wem and Mark et Drayton. TO Williams is now managed from the central bakery in Wem, where the founder Thomas Owen Williams opened his first Shropshire premises in 1935. After inheriting the family business, his son Alex went on to become a recognised Cheese Expert receiving international acclaim when elected to join the ‘Guilde des Fromagers’.
Now in its third generation of the Williams family, brothers Stephen and Dan are baking their way across Shropshire and while the products may have changed over the best part of a century to include a wider range of delicious foods, the values of providing fine food in a welcoming, ‘nothing-is-too-much-trouble’ atmosphere remains as strong as ever.
A visit to one of these sumptuous bakeries is a delight, the fridges and cabinets are bursting with a vast array of cheeses, breads, pastries, cakes, pickles, chutneys, jams, cold meats, sandwiches, stuffings and numerous nibbles and treats to tempt your taste buds. You can be assured of receiving the same high standards of service and presentation in whichever of the four shops you chose to frequent. Each makes up their own sandwiches and rolls and each has its own specials and favourites.
The abundant range of products has, to a degree, been influenced by foreign travel amongst TO Williams' customers and whilst the stock comes from near and far, so do the customers!
TO Williams of Wem currently employ over 60 members of staff with continued expansion planned. |
